When Do Ontario Parks Reservations Open for 2027? Dates by Weekend

Ontario Parks does not have one big opening day. Reservations open exactly five months before your arrival date, at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time, every single day. So the day you need to be at your laptop depends on the day you want to arrive. For the 2027 season that means the Victoria Day weekend goes on sale a few days before Christmas 2026, Canada Day goes on sale February 1, and Labour Day in early April.

Below is the full calendar for the weekends most people fight over, then what to have ready so the 7 a.m. click actually lands.

2027 booking dates for the long weekends

The rule is simple: take your arrival date and go back five months. Most people arrive on the Friday of a long weekend, so those are the dates that matter.

Weekend (2027) Arrive Book at 7 a.m. ET on
Victoria Day (Mon May 24) Fri May 21 Mon Dec 21, 2026
Victoria Day, arriving Saturday Sat May 22 Tue Dec 22, 2026
Canada Day (Thu Jul 1) Thu Jul 1 Mon Feb 1, 2027
Canada Day, arriving Friday Fri Jul 2 Tue Feb 2, 2027
Civic Holiday (Mon Aug 2) Fri Jul 30 around Feb 28 to Mar 1, 2027, see note
Labour Day (Mon Sep 6) Fri Sep 3 Sat Apr 3, 2027
Thanksgiving (Mon Oct 11) Fri Oct 8 Sat May 8, 2027

A note on the Civic Holiday: five months before July 30 would be "February 30", which does not exist. Ontario Parks handles these end-of-month cases with its own rule, and it is worth confirming on the official reservation site in February rather than trusting a blog, including this one. Plan to be ready on both February 28 and March 1.

If you want a plain summer week rather than a long weekend, the math is the same. Arriving Saturday, July 17? Book on February 17. Arriving Friday, August 13? Book on March 13.

Why the winter matters more than the summer

Ontario Parks has said that more than half of all reservations made between January 1 and March 31 are for just five parks: Algonquin, Killbear, Pinery, Sandbanks and Bon Echo. That is the whole July and August at the famous parks, sold in the dead of winter. If you are reading this in January and want a Sandbanks site on a July weekend, you are already in the window.

The practical consequence: decide where and which site before the booking day, not on it. The 7 a.m. rush is not the time to compare campgrounds. Our guides on which Algonquin campground to book and how to read a campsite before you book are meant for the week before.

What to have ready the night before

  1. An account that already works. Create it at reservations.ontarioparks.ca, log in once, and save your payment method if the site allows it. Password resets at 6:58 a.m. have ended a lot of trips.
  2. Three sites, in order. Your first choice and two fallbacks in the same campground, plus one fallback campground. Write the site numbers down. When your first pick vanishes, you want to be clicking, not scrolling.
  3. Dates and party size decided. Arrival, departure, number of people, number of vehicles, tent or trailer and its length. Every one of those is a form field, and the form does not wait.
  4. The whole crew's preference, not just yours. If you are booking for a group, settle the electrical-or-not and waterfront-or-shade questions the week before. A shared trip in PitchPeek with the candidate sites saved is one way to do that without a 40-message group chat.
  5. Be logged in at 6:55. The reservation page is live before 7, the "reserve" action is not. Have the campground map open in one tab and the reservation form in another.

If you miss it

You have three good options, and Ontario Parks recommends all of them.

  • Notify Me alerts. Parks see thousands of cancellations every year, many in the final days before a trip. Set an alert for the site or campground you wanted and act fast when the email arrives.
  • Flexible Dates search. The reservation site can show availability across a whole month instead of a fixed date. Weekdays and shoulder-season weeks at the famous parks are often open when weekends are not.
  • Go somewhere less famous. Ontario has more than a hundred operating parks. Northern parks in particular tend to have weekend availability all summer, and the drive is often the best part.

The one thing to remember

Five months, 7 a.m. Eastern, every day. Put the booking day for your weekend in your calendar now, with an alarm for 6:45 a.m., and do the campground research the week before.

When you have your site, PitchPeek is where the rest of the plan lives: save the site, invite the crew, split the gear list, and plan the meals. And when you get back, rate the site so the next person booking at 7 a.m. knows what they are getting.

Free · plan the trip with your crew · rate the site when you get home

Questions

How far in advance can you book an Ontario Parks campsite?
Five months before your arrival date. Reservations open at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time on the day exactly five months ahead. The window rolls forward every day, so there is no single opening day for the whole season.
What time do Ontario Parks reservations open?
7:00 a.m. Eastern Time, at reservations.ontarioparks.ca or by phone at 1-888-ONT-PARK. Popular parks and long weekends can be gone within minutes, so be logged in before 7.
Which Ontario parks book up first?
Ontario Parks says its five busiest parks are Algonquin, Killbear, Pinery, Sandbanks and Bon Echo, and that more than half of all reservations made between January and March are for those five.
What if the campsite I want is already taken?
Set up a 'Notify Me' availability alert on the reservation site. Parks get thousands of cancellations a year, many at the last minute, and the alert emails you when a matching site opens up.
